A Spotify Canvas from your cover.

Kinetune is a Spotify Canvas maker that starts from your cover art. It builds one idea from your artwork, checks the picture before any video is made, times the motion to your song and lays light over it that moves with the music. You get a silent 9:16 loop that is ready for Spotify for Artists.

The loop is made to Spotify's own specs, so it uploads the first time.

Made to Spotify's Canvas rules.

Spotify's guidelines

  • No talking, singing or rapping to camera: the loop is too short to stay in sync with a vocal.
  • No rapid cuts or intense flashing.
  • Keep the subject away from the edges, which some phones crop.
  • Leave out the song title and artist name; Now Playing already shows them.
  • No links, social handles, ticket sellers, brands or Spotify's logo, and nothing overly promotional.

What our director does

Every Canvas is planned inside those rules before anything is generated: one idea from your cover, no text, logos or promotion, no faces talking to camera, no flashing, and the subject kept clear of Spotify's controls. The motion follows your song's first chorus, so it moves at the song's tempo.

Over the picture, the director lays light that plays along with that chorus, picked for your song and your picture: glittering dust or a halo ring for an acoustic portrait, neon rings for synthwave, drifting particles for ambient. It moves with the music without ever flashing, and keeps clear of Spotify's controls.

How to make a Canvas.

The same upload makes your lyric videos, so one song gives you the Canvas and a video for every screen.

  1. Upload your song and cover

The cover sets the idea; the song sets the motion and the light that plays over it. Add photos of the artist if you want them in the shot.

  2. Pick a source and a style

An AI video, an AI image set in motion, a stock photo or a stock clip, in a style such as cinematic, dreamy, abstract. Or leave both to our director.

  3. Check the price and make it

The exact credits show before anything is made. Want options? Ask for up to 4 variations; each is its own design at the same price.

Add your Canvas in Spotify for Artists.

You add a Canvas yourself, track by track, from a computer or your phone. Upcoming releases can get one too, so it is there on release day.

  1. Download the MP4

Open the Canvas in Kinetune and download the file. It is already the right shape, length and size.

  2. Open the track

On a computer, log in at artists.spotify.com, open Music and select the track. In the Spotify for Artists app, tap Music and select the track.

  3. Add the Canvas

Click Add Canvas (in the app, tap Canvas), upload the file and save. It plays in place of your cover in the Now Playing view of Spotify's mobile app.

You can add a Canvas as the track's first main artist, as a main artist on both the track and the release, or as a team member with Admin or Editor access. Spotify's guide: Adding a Canvas to Spotify.

Questions about Spotify Canvas

What is a Spotify Canvas?
A Canvas is a short, silent, vertical loop that plays behind a track in the Now Playing view of Spotify's mobile app, in place of the cover art. Artists add one to each track in Spotify for Artists.
What size and length does a Canvas need?
Spotify asks for a vertical 9:16 video 3 to 8 seconds long and 720 to 1080 pixels tall, as an MP4 or a JPG. Kinetune makes 5 to 8 second MP4 loops at 1080×1920 or 720×1280, silent and under 8 MB.
How do I add the Canvas to my song?
Download the MP4, then in Spotify for Artists open Music, select the track and click Add Canvas (in the mobile app, tap Canvas). You need to be the track's first main artist, a main artist on both the track and the release, or a team member with Admin or Editor access.
Can a Canvas show text, my name or links?
Spotify suggests leaving out the song and artist name, since Now Playing already shows them, and its content policy rules out links, social handles, brands, Spotify's logo and anything overly promotional. Kinetune's Canvases carry no text at all.
Can the Canvas show me, the artist?
Yes. Add photos of the artist and Kinetune keeps their likeness when the idea calls for them, or choose to always or never show them. Spotify advises against talking, singing or rapping to camera, so no face lip-syncs in the loop.
How much does a Canvas cost?
It depends on the source: an AI video, an AI image set in motion, or stock. The exact credits show before anything is made, and each variation is a separate design at the same price.
Is Kinetune part of Spotify?
No. Spotify is a trademark of Spotify AB. Kinetune is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Spotify; it makes the file, and you upload it yourself in Spotify for Artists.
